A New Way of Eating!!
We recently watched the US documentary, Forks over Knives.
Let’s just say it was an eye opener, or a mouth opener! I’ll let you read up on it if you wish, but in a nutshell, the message to everyone is that a diet based on whole foods and plant foods is the way to go. NO meat, NO dairy.
I cut back on meat a few years ago after being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. Usually, I served meat at every supper meal. Hubster would bring leftovers to work the next day for his lunch. I didn’t eat as much meat as he did, having several meatless meals each week, but it was still a main staple in our house.
It’s been a week since we’ve had meat as the main part of our meal. Both of us had a nibble of chicken one day and had fish another, but other than that we have been eating meatless meals! I don’t think I’m ready to give up dairy though. I love DQ and lattés too much!!
I’m not going to go so far as to call ourselves vegetarians. We are still dabbling in this new way of eating, but I want to know —- what do we call ourselves if not vegetarians? Vegemaybes? Vegedabblers? Vegenewbies? And I don’t know how long we’ll remain on this new diet, but we are going to give it the old college try.
If you are a vegetarian or vegan, I ask you if you’d mind sharing your secrets….favourite tips, recipes, brand name foods, nutritional requirements, etc.
Bring on the spinach!!
